A small earthquake struck Berkeley Thursday morning — a 3.1 magnitude temblor that could be felt across the East Bay.
The quake, which was detected at about 9:23 a.m., according to the U.S. Geological Survey, could be felt in North Berkeley and Oakland.
The epicenter was in the hills above the main UC Berkeley campus, according to a map from the USGS. It was quite close to where a 4.3-magnitude earthquake on the Hayward Fault struck Berkeley last month; that quake was followed quickly by a 3.0 aftershock.
