Drunken Bay Area camper prompts large-scale search while sleeping it off in a field

An intoxicated camper at a Marin County campground set off an extensive overnight search early Sunday before returning safely to his tent, authorities said.

The incident began when the man’s friends reported him missing from the Olema Ranch Campground, saying he had been drinking heavily and might be in distress.

Marin County Sheriff’s deputies and Marin County Search and Rescue mobilized around 3 a.m., deploying approximately 40 team members on foot, plus e-bike and drone teams, to comb the area…
