Bunny rescued on Bay Bridge: CHP

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — Two California Highway Patrol officers rescued a rabbit attempting to cross the Bay Bridge earlier this month.

CHP Officers J. Landquist  and H. Contreras responded to a call on a Sunday afternoon for a bunny rabbit hopping along the raised catwalk on the eastbound side of Interstate 80 toward Treasure Island.

“As CHP Officers Landquist and Contreras arrived in the area, they quickly hopped into action and approached the wayward bunny,” CHP said. “The bunny began feverishly hopping away from the officers along the right lanes and catwalk, eluding capture for several minutes while attempting to flee back towards San Francisco.”

The officers eventually devised a plan to catch the rabbit using flare boxes. After 12 minutes of trying, the officers captured the rabbit and turned it over to San Francisco Animal Control.

“Our new furry friend ‘Hops-A-Lot’ was transported safely off the bridge and later turned over to San Francisco Animal Control for care after being verbally warned by the officers to keep its future hopping activities on the grass and not the asphalt freeways or bridges,” CHP said.
