Governor Gavin Newsom has expanded the California Highway Patrol’s (CHP) presence in the Bay Area. State officials report that since the beginning of 2025, CHP officers have worked with local law enforcement to make over 275 arrests, recover more than 520 stolen vehicles, and seize 34 illegal firearms in the Bay Area. These actions are part of a statewide effort to address crime and support community relations with law enforcement.
CHP crime suppression teams have also been deployed in other regions, including San Diego, the Inland Empire, Los Angeles, the Central Valley, Sacramento, and the San Francisco Bay Area. Statewide, these teams have made 1,200 arrests, recovered over 600 stolen vehicles, and seized 73 illegal firearms so far this year. CHP Commissioner Sean Duryee stated that the increased presence of these teams is intended to reduce crime and build public trust in law enforcement.
