A residential fire erupted just south of San Francisco’s Telegraph Hill Friday evening, prompting firefighters to warn the public to avoid the area.
Flames had engulfed the top floor of the residence in the 1000 Block of Montgomery Street, and approximately 100 fighters had arrived to beat back the blaze pouring heavy smoke into the air, San Francisco Fire Department Chief Dean Crispen said. By 5:45 p.m., firefighters had controlled the flames, leaving behind a charred roof and thin smoke coming from the damaged building. The two neighboring buildings also sustained damage, Crispen said.
