Another Bay Area Safeway store set to permanently close

An East Bay Safeway store plans to permanently close early next year.

The Safeway at 231 W. Jackson St. in Hayward is slated to shutter on Feb. 2, according to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification filed with state officials and reviewed by SFGATE.

A spokesperson for Safeway told the San Francisco Chronicle that the decision to close the Hayward site “was not made lightly,” yet coincided with the location’s lease coming to an end. (The Chronicle and SFGATE are both owned by Hearst but have separate newsrooms.)…
