Bay Area pilot who nearly crashed SFO-bound jet on mushrooms walks free after sentencing

A former Alaska Airlines pilot who nearly cut fuel to both engines of a packed passenger flight to SFO in 2023 walked free Monday after a federal judge ruled that the time he already spent behind bars was sufficient punishment, according to KATU News.

Joseph Emerson, 44, of Pleasant Hill, was sentenced to time served and three years of supervised release for interfering with flight crew members during an off-duty flight from Everett, Wash., to San Francisco International Airport.

He must also pay a $100 fine and will not appeal the decision…
