Brinkley joined the station in 1989, covering the Loma Prieta earthquake as one of her first assignments. Reporting live from the Bay Bridge, she stood “just feet from the edge” of the collapsed span, colleague Dan Ashley recalled.
At the 2022 Silver Circle Awards, honoring veteran television professionals, Brinkley remembered how the truck she was in felt like it was “on a trampoline.”
