10-year-old ‘making progress’ in ICU after San Francisco school commute crash

(KRON) — A 10-year-old severely injured in a car crash while being driven to school in late September is now able to speak again while a long road to his recovery continues.

Lear has been in a pediatric intensive care unit since the solo vehicle collision on Sept. 29, getting 24-hour around-the-clock care. The crash happened in the area of Geneva and San Jose avenues, according to a GoFundMe page created.

San Francisco police told KRON4 their officers arrived at the crash scene at 8 a.m. and found three were injured. Two victims were taken to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Lear, the third victim, suffered life-threatening injuries, including a neck fracture, traumatic spinal cord injuries, a traumatic brain injury, rib fractures, grade 3 liver lacerations, and abdominal wall lesions, according to those close to his family…
