Some of the last remaining stores at S.F.’s biggest mall are closing, new owner pushing tenants out

At least two of the last remaining stores at San Francisco Centre — Ecco shoes and Samsonite — are closing as the mall’s new owner seeks to push tenants out.

Lawyers for the new owner, an entity called DBJPM 2016-SFC Emporium, LLC, sent letters to tenants notifying them that their leases were terminated due to the ownership change, an employee at Ecco confirmed.  It wasn’t clear how many remaining tenants received the letter — an employee at Sole & Laces said their lease remains intact through next year.

Lenders foreclosed and took over the 1.5 million-square-foot property last week, with plans to sell it again. The mall is only 9% occupied, and its online directory lists only 29 tenants — down from around 200 before the pandemic…
