Coast Guard seizes 20,000 pounds of cocaine in largest bust in nearly 20 years

ALAMEDA, Calif. — A U.S. Coast Guard cutter intercepted more than 20,000 pounds of cocaine from a single vessel in the eastern Pacific this week, marking the largest at-sea drug seizure in nearly two decades, according to KDKA.

The Coast Guard said the seizure was carried out by the crew of the cutter Munro, based in Alameda, during counternarcotics operations under Operation Pacific Viper — a Trump administration effort to disrupt drug trafficking routes across the Pacific.

Video released by the agency shows Coast Guard teams pursuing a high-speed “go-fast” boat carrying several people. A helicopter crew disabled the noncompliant vessel before the Munro arrived to recover the drugs, KDKA reported. The Coast Guard did not release information about those who appeared to be aboard.
