SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — A dog that was struck by a driverless Waymo in San Francisco’s Western Addition last month was put down after suffering what its owners characterized as “severe pelvic trauma.” The dog, a beloved family pet named “Leo,” was struck by the autonomous vehicle on Nov. 30 at around 8 p.m.
The incident occurred just weeks after a beloved bodega cat known as the “Mayor of 16th Street” was similarly struck and killed by a Waymo in the Mission District.
According to an account from Leo’s owner, the dog was out walking with a family member when he entered the roadway and a Waymo vehicle appeared, “failed to detect him, struck him, and then proceeded to roll over him.”
