Man charged with arson for fire at S.F. Hillel

San Francisco District Attorney’s officials charged a man with arson in connection to a fire that damaged the San Francisco Hillel, authorities said Friday.

Mitchell Hoyt, 36, was charged with arson of a structure — with an allegation of a strike prior conviction — after prosecutors said he started a fire outside the religious center that spread to the building itself on Dec. 5.

Just before 2 p.m. that afternoon, San Francisco police and fire teams responded to the building at the unit block of Banbury Drive, an outpost for Jewish student life at several local colleges, including San Francisco State University…
