‘It’s unacceptable:’ S.F. residents express anger at lack of communication from city and PG&E

San Francisco residents without power for nearly 24 hours expressed anger at Pacific Gas and Electric Co. and city officials for the handling of an ongoing outage that left thousands without electricity.

As of Sunday at 2:30 p.m., 16,000 customers remained without power in San Francisco’s Presidio, the Richmond District and Golden Gate Park neighborhoods, as well as “small areas” downtown, and they were expected to stay in the dark for roughly another 24 hours. PG&E said it anticipated a full power restoration at 2 p.m. Monday.

Annette Hurst stood at the corner of Balboa Street and 24th Avenue just before noon on Sunday watching PG&E crews and contractors install a mobile substation. Her home had been without power for almost a full day. With a gas stove, Hurst said she had been able to cook dinner Saturday night for her college-aged kids, who were home for the holidays, and they ate by candlelight…
