Two tunnels closed at Caldecott Tunnel

(KRON) — Two of the Caldecott Tunnel’s four bores were closed as of noon on Christmas Day due to a power failure, according to the California Highway Patrol. Eastbound Bore 1 and westbound Bore 3 were shut down, while the other two bores remain open.

The CHP issued a severe traffic alert for eastbound and westbound lanes of Highway 24 near Orinda. Drivers should expect delays, avoid the area, and use alternate routes when possible.

There is no estimated time for reopening the closed bores.

Caltrans is also reporting that there is emergency construction on eastbound Highway 24 between the tunnel and Fish Ranch Road. Lanes are expected to be closed until midnight…
