Predawn Triple Killing Shocks Oakland’s International Boulevard

Three people were killed in a shooting yesterday in East Oakland, in a burst of gunfire that turned a stretch of International Boulevard into an active homicide scene. Responding to a ShotSpotter alert, officers arrived to find multiple victims on the roadway. Two people were pronounced dead at the scene, and a third victim later died at a hospital. Homicide detectives soon took over, canvassing the corridor as investigators worked to piece together how the violence unfolded.

Scene and Timeline

According to SFGATE, the shooting was reported at about 3 AM following a ShotSpotter activation in the 8400 block of International Boulevard. Officers found three people suffering from gunshot wounds. Police said the victims’ names have not been released, as officials are still working to notify their families.

The department has asked anyone who was in the area at the time, or who has relevant video, to share it with investigators to help reconstruct what happened in those morning minutes.

How It Fits Into City Trends

The San Francisco Chronicle reported that the shooting occurred near 85th Avenue and that the three deaths raise Oakland’s homicide total for the year to five, following two fatal shootings on New Year’s Day. The Chronicle also noted that Oakland recorded 57 homicides last year, the fewest since 1967, which makes the spike in early-2026 killings a troubling reversal for residents and city leaders. Authorities have not publicly linked the incidents and say all of the investigations remain active.
