Providing homeless young people with monthly cash payments helped stabilize their lives, according to Larkin Street Youth Services in the wake of a two-year pilot program it administered.
Launched in August 2023, the Trust Youth Initiative aimed to understand how direct cash support would help young people struggling with homelessness and other issues, and explore how such a model could work on a larger scale with The City’s homeless population.
More than eight in 10 recipients of the monthly $1,500 payments — which was broken into two installments — were able to find stable housing and reported improved mental well-being at the end of the program, according to the nonprofit, which shared its preliminary findings with The Examiner this week…
