Hundreds to be laid off from Bay Area-based luxury EV maker

(KRON) — Hundreds of employees will be laid off from a Bay Area-based electric vehicle maker. According to a California WARN report, 319 Lucid Motors employees are losing their jobs, effective on April 21.

The employees are based in Lucid’s headquarters in Newark on Gateway Boulevard. The report states the layoffs were processed on Feb. 20. It was not clear which exact department(s) the laid-off workers are in.

Lucid’s layoffs come amid recent marketing campaigns this year featuring several celebrities, including actress Diane Kruger and NFL players Deebo Samuel, Trevor Lawrence and Myles Garrett. Last summer, Lucid launched a brand partnership with Golden Globe-winning actor Timothée Chalamet.
