Oakland city makes Alysa Liu announcement as she adjusts to new life

Alysa Liu’s native city of Oakland is organizing a citywide event to celebrate the figure skater’s Olympic accomplishments.

Liu secured two gold medals at the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics, earning one as a member of the U.S. figure skating team and another in the women’s singles event. Her singles victory represented the first Olympic gold in that category for an American woman since 2002, and she became the first U.S. woman to earn a podium finish in that discipline since 2006.
