How many times a day do we cross the street without thinking twice? We always tell our children to look both ways, and we hopefully model that safe behavior. Sometimes, even when we take all the proper precautions, accidents still happen. A San Francisco community is mourning the loss of a 2-year-old girl who died while crossing an intersection with her mother on February 28, 2026. The tragedy reminds us that even when we are right next to our children, terrible things can happen.
KTVU reported that officers from the San Francisco Police Department arrived at 4th and Channel streets in the Oracle Park neighborhood just before 9 p.m. Emergency responders immediately began life-saving measures and took the mother and child to an area hospital. Sadly, staff pronounced the little girl dead a short time later. Her mother only had minor injuries.
San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie shared a message of comfort for the victim’s family. “I am heartbroken by the tragic loss of a two-year-old child in last night’s crash in Mission Rock, and my thoughts are with the family during this unimaginable time. My heart is also with the child’s mother, who was injured in this incident,” Lurie said…
