Superstar chefs just gave this SF neighborhood its only Mexican restaurant

When Mexico-born chef Laura Ozyilmaz attended Ambrosía Centro Culinario culinary school right out of high school, she didn’t want to learn how to cook Mexican food. After growing up in the state of Guerrero, she wanted to “expand her knowledge” and learn about new cuisines and cultures from around the globe.

Her journey, which led her to Michelin-starred restaurants like Mugaritz in Spain, Eleven Madison Park in New York City and Saison, here in San Francisco, taught her fine dining techniques from some of the best chefs in the world. And her travels with her husband and business partner, Sayat Ozyilmaz, showed her the similarities in cuisines from all over the world.

But now, Laura is doing something her 18-year-old self never thought she’d be doing: cooking her native cuisine for the masses…
