Officers rescue dog from hillside in Lafayette

Contra Costa Animal Services officers rescued a 13-year-old German Shepherd named Shay after she fell down a steep hillside in Lafayette and could not climb back up. Officer Madsen reached Shay on unstable, leaf-covered ground and secured her with rescue equipment. Officer Silva arrived to assist.

Using a 72-foot rope and a flexible stretcher, the officers lifted Shay safely to the top of the hill, where she was given water and reunited with her family. The department shared that emergency rescues like this are a key part of their daily work helping animals and families in need…
