This cafe near Ocean Beach is a buzzy community hub at the forefront of the NA beverage movement

Just steps from the sand in the Outer Sunset, Ocean Beach Cafe has become a gathering place for locals, visitors, and curious newcomers exploring a growing movement around non-alcoholic beverages. What began as a spontaneous decision during the uncertainty of 2020 has since grown into one of the most recognized alcohol-free cafés and bottle shops in the United States.

Founder Joshua James spent more than two decades working in hospitality before opening the cafe. His career included bartending, brewing beer, managing bars, and living in cities across the country—including Hawaii, Los Angeles, New York, Alaska, and North Carolina—before eventually returning to San Francisco.
