Hayward man slain in Monterey County jail

(KRON) — A 30-year-old Hayward man was attacked by multiple inmates and slain inside a Monterey County jail, according to officials.

Deputies found the homicide victim, Abraham Camacho, in one of the jail’s inmate housing units at 10 a.m. Sunday. “Deputies located an unconscious incarcerated person who appeared to have been assaulted. Tragically, the victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene,” the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office wrote.

Three inmates were arrested on suspicion of murder and gang conspiracy: Romeo Tejeda Gonzales, 21, of Greenfield, Marwuy Jose Centeno Camacho, 19, of Soledad, and Elijah Herrera, 20, of Salinas.
