San Francisco is not a fancy city. But bits of black-tie glamour still exist if you know where to look — and if you can afford tickets to the right events. One such place was the de Young Museum in Golden Gate Park last Thursday, where the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, or FAMSF, hosted its annual black-tie gala.
Among the more than 460 guests in attendance were a who’s who of prominent Bay Area residents: San Francisco Giants CEO Larry Baer, chef Alice Waters, former Mayor Willie Brown, and philanthropists Vanessa Getty and Margot Kerr, who is married to Warriors coach Steve Kerr. Guests sipped sparkling wine while perusing the museum’s exhibits and enjoyed a multicourse dinner. Mayor Daniel Lurie shared opening remarks, and musician Umi headlined the afterparty.
This year’s gala honored Andy Goldsworthy, whose nature-based artwork graces San Francisco’s Presidio and greets visitors at the de Young’s entrance, along with philanthropists Cynthia Fry Gunn and John Gunn.
Aside from Goldsworthy, other artist guests included the Bay Area’s Clare Rojas, Catherine Wagner, Chelsea Ryoko Wong, Miguel Arzabe, Rupy C. Tut, Michael Jang and Soleé Darrell…
