A car crashed into a house on the 900 block of Newell Road in Palo Alto’s Crescent Park neighborhood on Wednesday, causing significant structural damage to the residence after the vehicle was broadsided by another car. No one was injured in the collision, which happened around 8:48 PM near the intersection of Newell Road and Channing Avenue.
The crash unfolded when one vehicle drove into the residence following a broadside collision with another car, according to Palo Alto Online, which first reported the incident. Police told the outlet that the cause of the crash could not be determined because of conflicting statements from those involved and a lack of independent witnesses. The residential block sits just east of Eleanor Pardee Park, the 9.6-acre municipal green space known for its playgrounds, picnic areas and demonstration gardens that anchors much of Crescent Park’s community life, according to the City of Palo Alto.

Crescent Park is one of Palo Alto’s wealthiest residential pockets, bounded by Channing Avenue, Middlefield Road, Newell Road and San Francisquito Creek per DeLeon Realty. Newell Road itself functions as a key north-south collector route, linking Channing Avenue and Embarcadero Road across San Francisquito Creek into East Palo Alto, according to the Metropolitan Transportation Commission’s analysis of the local street grid. The corridor carries meaningful cross-town commuter traffic between the two cities, and it’s currently in the middle of major construction: Palo Alto broke ground in May on a $16.12 million project to replace the 1911 Newell Road Bridge over the creek, a project that requires a full bridge closure this year, as reported by The Registry.
