CALIFORNIA STATE – A California county is weighing a minimum wage that would have sounded almost unimaginable just a few years ago: $30 an hour.
The proposal is under consideration in Alameda County, where supporters gathered enough signatures to force action on a ballot initiative. If it eventually takes effect, the measure would establish what proponents describe as the highest general minimum wage in the United States.
But the increase would not happen immediately — and it would not apply everywhere in the county.
