Gilroy school officials join fight to block proposed ICE detention facility

SANTA CLARA COUNTY, Calif. (KRON) — A coalition of school board members and superintendents from Santa Clara County rallied in San Jose Wednesday to oppose the plan to put an ICE detention facility in Gilroy.

“Our school districts cannot determine federal immigration policy, but we can determine what we stand for,” said Tuyen Fiack, the President of the Gilroy School Board. “Our school districts cannot determine federal immigration policy, but we can determine what we stand for,” she said.

The school leaders who came from Palo Alto to Gilroy said there is no doubt putting an ICE facility there will impact children’s education.
