Mark Bingham hardly was the only person with Bay Area connections aboard Flight 93.
Tom Burnett, who joined Bingham in leading the counterattack, worked at a medical-device company in Pleasanton and lived in San Ramon with his wife and three young daughters. Todd Beamer, who famously said “Let’s roll!” as the revolt began, spent his senior year at Los Gatos High School. United Airlines pilot Jason Dahl grew up in San Jose and studied aeronautics operations at San Jose State.

Also on the plane were flight attendant Wanda Green, an Oakland Tech graduate; Oakland lawyer Alan Beaven; Portola Valley businessman Andrew Garcia; college students Deora Bodley (Santa Clara) and Nicole Miller (West Valley); Hilda Marcin, a retired teacher’s aide who was moving to Danville to live with her daughter; and Lauren Grandcolas, a marketing and advertising executive who lived in San Rafael. She was three months pregnant at the time of her death.
