California Deputy Sheriff shot, suffers critical non-life threatening injuries serving eviction

In a harrowing incident on January 24, 2024, at approximately 1:34 p.m., officers from the Union City Police Department (UCPD) responded to the 33000 block of Dowe Avenue following a report of an officer being shot, the city said in a press release.

The incident unfolded as Alameda County Sheriff’s Office deputies were serving an eviction in the area, and the suspect opened fire, striking one of the deputies.

The injured deputy was swiftly transported to a local trauma center for critical, but fortunately, non-life-threatening injuries, investigators said.

Local agencies promptly mobilized to assist in managing the incident, and as of the writing of this press release, the crime scene remains active.

Authorities are advising the community to avoid the area as investigations continue and efforts are made to secure the scene.
