Floodwaters leave popular California county park closed to visitors on sunniest, warmest winter day

In response to recent flooding, several areas within Hellyer County Park in Santa Clara County have been temporarily closed, announced the Santa Clara County Parks department. The closures affect popular recreational spots, including the paved walking path around Cottonwood Lake and the Cottonwood Group Site.

Heavy rainfall in the region has resulted in the flooding of the perimeter trail around Cottonwood Lake, rendering it impassable and necessitating its closure. Additionally, the Cottonwood Group Site has been impacted by the rising waters, prompting authorities to restrict access for safety reasons.

Vehicle access to certain group sites within the park is also affected. Those planning to visit the Velodrome, Sylvandale, or Yerba Buena group sites are advised that their ability to access these areas may be limited due to the flooding.

Santa Clara County Parks officials are actively monitoring the situation and working to assess the extent of the damage caused by the flooding. The closures are implemented to ensure the safety of park visitors and to allow for necessary repairs and cleanup efforts.
