California IT director pleads guilty to charges of stealing & selling company’s Macbooks

In a significant development, 49-year-old Andrew Halvorsen of Livermore has pleaded guilty to the charge of conspiracy to transport stolen property interstate, announced U.S. Attorney Phillip A. Talbert.

The plea was made today, marking a crucial step in the legal proceedings against the former Senior Director of Information Technology for a cloud-based machine data analytics company.

According to court documents, Halvorsen, in his role at the company, was responsible for ordering Apple MacBooks for fellow employees.

However, in November 2019, he embarked on a criminal spree by stealing MacBooks that he had ordered and subsequently sold them for cash, prosecutors said.

The investigation revealed that Halvorsen’s buyer resold and shipped the stolen laptops to buyers located outside the state of California.

In total, Halvorsen managed to steal and sell at least 141 MacBooks, accumulating a staggering cost of over $535,000 for his employer, prosecutors added.

This case, which emerged as a result of a joint investigation by the IRS Criminal Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, exposes the extent of Halvorsen’s illicit activities.
