Pedestrian hit while running in and out of traffic dies, San Jose PD investigating

( KRON ) — A man who was struck by a car while running in and out of traffic outside a marked crosswalk earlier this month has died, according to the San Jose Police Department. SJPD officers responded at 6:43 a.m. on Jan. 11 on a report of a vehicle versus pedestrian collision in the area of Quimby Road and S. White Road.

A preliminary investigation, police said, revealed an unknown driver in an unknown vehicle was headed west on Quimby when it struck a pedestrian. The pedestrian, an adult male, was running in and out of traffic at the time.

The pedestrian was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries and later stabilized. The suspect vehicle fled the scene and remains outstanding, according to police.

On Saturday, Jan. 27, the victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased. This marks San Jose’s fourth fatal collision and fourth traffic death of 2024. It is also the third pedestrian death of 2024, according to police.
