San Jose flooding hotspots have city crews on guard

(KRON) — San Jose city and water agencies are on high-alert monitoring flooding hotspots Wednesday with an atmospheric river-powered storm forecasted to drop 1-3 inches of rainfall.

The National Weather Service has a flood watch in effect until Friday morning, and a wind advisory until Thursday morning.

Residents will likely see street ponding at hotspots including Ross Creek at Cherry Avenue, and Penitencia Creek at King Road and Mabury Road, city officials said.

The NWS warned, “Heavy rain will runoff quickly, causing flooding of creeks and streams and numerous shallow landslides.”

Santa Clara Valley Water has live webcams of several waterways that residents can view.

San Jose Department of Transportation crews are working around-the-clock for this storm. The public is encouraged to help address problems quickly by calling 408-794-1900 to report clogged storm drains, flooding in the streets, fallen trees or branches, or other storm-related hazards.

“The city has activated an Incident Management Team – ensuring the city is prepared for the impending rain and can actively monitor the storm,” said Assistant City Manager Lee Wilcox.
