Saratoga girl trapped, rescued after tree crushes truck

(KRON) — A 12-year-old Saratoga girl was inside her family’s vehicle preparing to go to school Wednesday morning when a giant tree fell over and crushed the vehicle, neighbors said. The girl survived.

The Santa Clara County Fire Department said it received a 911 call around 8 a.m. about a tree toppling over a home’s driveway on Oak Place in Saratoga. The tree landed on the family’s truck, sliced it in half, and trapped the girl inside, a neighbor said.

The tree also ripped down power lines and damaged the family’s house. “Crews extricated a female juvenile who was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries,” SCCFD wrote.

Residents said the winds were whipping overnight and likely caused the tree to fall. A wind advisory was issued by the National Weather Service Wednesday while a strong winter storm swirled over the Bay Area.
