BMW slams into tree in California, killing female passenger; Male driver ran away leaving her behind

A tragic solo vehicle collision on February 3, 2024, at approximately 5:41 PM, has resulted in the death of an adult female passenger. The incident occurred in the vicinity of Piedmont Road and Sierra Road in San José.

According to the preliminary investigation conducted by patrol officers, a 2006 white BMW sedan, occupied by an adult male driver and adult female passenger, was traveling northbound on Piedmont Road. The vehicle left the roadway, crossed over the east curbline of Piedmont Road, and collided with a light pole and tree, police said.

Regrettably, the adult female passenger sustained severe injuries in the collision. She was promptly transported to a local hospital, where, tragically, she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased.

The male driver of the BMW fled from the scene, adding complexity to the ongoing investigation, police said. This incident marks the 7th fatal collision and 7th traffic-related death in 2024 within San José.

The San José Police Department’s Traffic Investigations Unit is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision. The identity of the victim will be disclosed by the Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office once the victim’s identity is confirmed, and next of kin is notified.
