San José’s Emergency Operations Center has updated the city’s power outage status. As of 5 p.m. on February 6, 2024, around 5,000 residents were without power, down from nearly 50,000 earlier in the week. The Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) is regularly updating their outage map.

The city has introduced a Storm Inconvenience Program, compensating residents without power for 48 hours or more. A separate program offers backup portable batteries to residents dependent on medical devices and assistive technology. This is part of the city’s emergency preparedness efforts.

The Emergency Operations Center has given food safety advice for the power outage. The United States Department of Agriculture states that refrigerators keep food safe for up to four hours during a power outage. After four hours without power, residents should discard perishable food and not taste food to check its safety.

Community centers and libraries are open for residents needing to charge medical devices, phones, or other devices during normal business hours. The city has a Damage Survey process for residents with storm-related structural damage to their properties. This process helps residents get permits and inspections quickly.
