Police pursuit leads to gun charges in Hayward

( KRON ) – A traffic stop led to a police pursuit of a man illegally carrying a firearm, the Hayward Police Department said.

Hayward officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for “various equipment violations.” Police say the driver was driving without a license, according to records.

As the officers were citing the driver and towing the vehicle, police said the suspect drove away. Officers arrested the suspect after a “short distance” pursuit.

The officers located an unregistered rifle inside the car and drug paraphernalia, police said. The suspect gave a false identification to the officers, according to police.

According to the police investigation, the suspect had an outstanding warrant and was on probation, which prohibited him from possessing any firearms.
