Budget-friendly airline introduces new route connecting two major California metro regions

San José Mineta International Airport (SJC) announced that Spirit Airlines will introduce a twice-daily nonstop route to Hollywood Burbank Airport (BUR), starting September 4, 2024.

This addition comes just one year after Spirit began its operations at SJC and marks significant growth for the airline, SJC stated.

Available for booking now, this new service increases Spirit’s total peak daily departures to 13, reflecting a 150% growth since its inaugural flight on June 7, 2023.

In a bid to further expand its presence at SJC, Spirit Airlines has also applied to the US Department of Transportation to initiate nonstop flights between SJC and Reagan National Airport (DCA) in Washington, DC, the airport added.

San José Mayor Matt Mahan expressed his support, noting that Spirit Airlines is effectively connecting the heart of Silicon Valley to key destinations.

“Their new Burbank connection and bid for a direct flight to Washington, D.C. will help more people visit family, do business, and experience all the Bay Area has to offer via the region’s most convenient and reliable airport,” Mahan said.
