San Jose police officer charged with rape

(KRON) — A San Jose Police Department officer is facing rape charges in San Benito County. Officer Anthony Joseph Parraz was immediately placed on administrative leave after prosecutors filed charges this summer, according to SJPD.

Parraz appeared in court on August 13. He is charged with felony sexual penetration of an unconscious or sleeping victim, and felony lewd acts with a child less than 14 years old, San Benito County court records show.

A judge ordered Parraz to return to court on October 8 to set a timeline for his preliminary hearing.

The alleged crimes happened in 2014, court records state. While criminal charges are pending, the state Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training suspended Parraz’s certification to serve as a law enforcement officer.

A second San Jose Police Department officer, Timothy Hackney , was arraigned in a Santa Clara County courtroom on Tuesday to face domestic violence charges in a separate case. Hackney, 31, is accused of shooting his duty weapon inside his Morgan Hill home and a committing a series of assaults against his pregnant girlfriend.
