UFC star Cain Velasquez changes plea in ‘vigilante’ shooting

( KRON ) — Former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez pleaded no contest to attempted murder on Friday for firing a gun at a man who allegedly molested one of the fighter’s young children.

The Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office described Velasquez’s violence as a “vigilante shooting spree.”

Investigators said Velasquez was seeking revenge in 2022 against a suspected pedophile, 43-year-old Harry Goularte, who lived in a San Martin home daycare. One of Velasquez’s children reported being molested by Goularte inside the daycare’s bathroom, court documents show.

District Attorney Jeff Rosen said, “This defendant decided to become judge, jury, and executioner. His actions endangered innocent bystanders, including young children and their parents who could have been injured or killed as he shot at his intended victim. We have excellent law enforcement in this county. Let them do their jobs.”
