Shelter-in-place lifted in Cupertino after suspect taken into custody

(KRON) — A shelter-in-place was issued in Cupertino on Monday night, the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office announced. It has since been lifted.

The shelter-in-place was in the area of Stevens Creek Boulevard and Stern Avenue for police activity.

SCCSO said that at 6:23 p.m. it received a call regarding a suspicious person at the intersection of Stevens Creek Boulevard and Stern Avenue. When deputies arrived, the person allegedly pulled out a knife.

Mental health professionals arrived, but the suspect became more aggressive, the sheriff’s office said. Deputies used pepper balls and a K-9 after the suspect ignored commands.

The man was bitten by a K-9 and taken into custody.
