On August 30, 2024, San Jose drivers benefitted from reduced commute times following the official ribbon-cutting of the US 101/De La Cruz Boulevard/Trimble Road Interchange Improvements project. The $75 million project, a collaborative effort by Caltrans, the cities of San Jose and Santa Clara, and the Valley Transportation Authority (VTA), aims to ease congestion at one of the region’s busiest interchanges.
The newly completed interchange features a six-lane overcrossing and a dedicated Class I underpass for pedestrians and cyclists, enhancing safety by separating non-motorized traffic from vehicles. The upgraded infrastructure also meets current seismic standards, boosting resilience and safety.
Senate Bill 1 (SB 1), the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017, provided $25 million for the project, highlighting its role in accelerating transportation improvements across California. Caltrans District 4 Director Diana El-Tawansy praised the project’s impact, stating, “This investment is crucial for the future of our transportation network.”
