Phony Silicon Valley inventor flees sentencing in San Jose, remains at-large

(KRON) — A phony Silicon Valley tech inventor never showed up for his sentencing hearing in San Jose to face prison time. Dennis Fountaine, 67, is currently considered a fugitive of the law, prosecutors said Wednesday.

Fountaine was slated to be sentenced by a judge on August 5 at the Santa Clara County Hall of Justice. He was a no-show, and now investigators with the District Attorney’s Office want to find him.

District Attorney Jeff Rosen said, “The man pretended he was an inventor, but he won’t be able to pretend for long that he’s not a wanted fugitive. Let us know where he is so we can make sure he doesn’t scam anyone else.”

For one of his schemes, Fountaine fooled a group of investors by pretending to invent a robot, named “Homer,” that would help dispense medication for the elderly and disabled, according to prosecutors.

Investigators said Fountaine also created a company, Screen Test, that touted itself as an entertainment software and hardware development company.
