Adoptive father, son arrested in connection with August homicide: police

(KRON) – The Hayward Police Department has arrested Shawn Moayer in the city’s tenth homicide of the year which occurred on Aug. 26.

On the day of 36-year-old Hayward resident Matthew Beck’s death, police responded to the 22000 block of Santa Clara Street for a report of a shooting at 3:25 p.m. Beck was found with gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene

Hayward detectives identified 34-year-old Hayward resident Moayer as the suspect. According to police, officers believed Moayer’s adoptive father, Houman Moayer, knowingly harbored Shawn in an effort to hide him from law enforcement.

Police found Shawn at a Union City residence on Sept. 4., where he was arrested for the homicide. Houman, a 59-year-old Union City resident, was also arrested for being an accessory.

Chief Bryan Matthews said, “Our thoughts remain with the family and loved ones of Mr. Beck as they continue to grieve. We hope these arrests mark a meaningful step in their journey toward healing and justice for Mr. Beck and his family.”
