Monterey Co.: Woman Arrested On Suspicion Of Attempted Murder After 83-Year-Old Woman Found Severely Beaten

Bay City News

A woman was arrested last week in Pajaro for allegedly beating an elderly woman in her home, the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office said.

On Wednesday at about 12:40 p.m., a person in the 30 block of Florence Avenue in Pajaro heard what they thought sounded like a neighbor screaming next door. He went over to investigate and went into his 83-year-old neighbor’s home, where he allegedly saw a woman hitting her repeatedly in the head with a knife sharpener.

Deputies arrived at the residence and discovered the elderly woman suffering from severe head trauma. She was taken to the hospital where she had to undergo surgery. She is now in stable condition, the Sheriff’s Office said.

A second person was also found in the residence and she was taken into custody.

Schauntel Marina Gomez, 37, of Milpitas, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon and elder abuse. Her bail was set at over $1 million.
