Caltrans invites community members to share thoughts and learn more about the SR 25 Corridor Improvement Project

SAN BENITO COUNTY, Calif. (KION-TV) — Caltrans is inviting San Benito County community members to a handful of in-person and online meetings to learn about the State Route 25 (SR 25) Corridor Improvement Project .

Caltrans says that Tier 1 of the project proposes improvements between San Benito and Santa Clara counties, specifically between Hollister and Gilroy, which considers a 4-lane, 3-lane and 2-lane expressway, as well as a 2-lane transit way and 1-lane reversible transit way.

Tier 2 of the project deals with a segment of road between San Felipe Road to Hudner Lane.

According to Caltrans, the purpose of the project is to reduce deadly and major-injury crashes on SR 25; provide sustainable travel options to meet the area’s housing, economic and job demands; create reliable goods movement between San Benito County and the Coast, Central Valley and other parts of the Bay Area.

Other reasons for the improvement project, according to Caltrans, includes improved time time reliability between San Benito and Santa Clara counties; improved connectivity and mobility for communities in San Benito County with access to job centers and services in Santa Clara County; and alleviating traffic diversion onto the local roads.
