Motorcycle collision on State Route 9 leaves two with major injuries

SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, California — A multi-motorcycle crash on State Route 9 left two riders with major injuries and another with minor injuries, according to the California Highway Patrol. The incident occurred yesterday afternoon around 2:47 p.m. north of Shingle Mill Road.A 29-year-old man from Santa Clara was riding a 2025 Kawasaki Ninja 500 southbound when it veered into the northbound lane, colliding with a 2020 BMW S1000RR driven by a 39-year-old man from Sunnyvale. The Kawasaki then continued southbound in the northbound lane, striking a 2020 KTM Duke 250 operated by a 25-year-old man from Royal Oaks. This collision caused the KTM to enter the southbound lane and hit a 2014 BMW R Nine T, driven by a 47-year-old man from Mountain View.The Kawasaki and KTM riders sustained major injuries and were transported to Valley Medical Center, while the BMW R Nine T rider suffered minor injuries and was also taken to the same hospital. The BMW S1000RR rider was uninjured. All involved were wearing helmets, and alcohol or drugs are not suspected as factors in the crash, stated the California Highway Patrol. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
