As a resident of Mountain View, I’m all for making our city more sustainable and less congested. But these new rules targeting single-occupancy vehicle trips seem a bit much. Developers are now expected to implement strategies like public transit subsidies, bike commuter rewards, company shuttles, and carpool incentives to meet ambitious trip reduction goals—30% for small projects, 40% for medium, and 50% for large ones.
While these measures sound great in theory, I can’t help but wonder how they’ll affect us regular folks. Will developers pass on the costs to us in the form of higher rents or home prices? Will the emphasis on alternative transportation lead to fewer parking spaces or longer commutes? It’s hard to say, but I’m curious to see how these changes play out.…
