Urgent search for missing Bay Area hiker who got separated from family

Authorities are asking residents to check their cameras for clues as the search for a missing 79-year-old hiker continues in San Mateo County.

Margaret “Elaine” McKinley of Redwood City went hiking with her family on Thursday at the Windy Hill Open Space Preserve, a 1,400-acre park in Portola Valley. Around 2 p.m., McKinley’s family members contacted authorities to report she had gotten separated from the group and was missing. McKinley, who has dementia, was last seen on the Lost Trail .

The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office said Saturday that 150 search and rescue volunteers were conducting grid searches in the preserve, in addition to utilizing a bloodhound, drones and the sheriff’s office airplane. So far, though, “unfortunately, no sightings were reported,” the sheriff’s office said…
